The Count of the Living Death

The Count of the Living Death (The Chronicles of Hildigrim Blackbeard) - Joshua Grasso

This was a quick, humorous read. It wasn't quite what I expected when I started reading, but after the first couple of chapters I was hooked.  Mary was so take charge and I loved how she handled herself with the dragon. She was probably my favorite character in the book, followed by Ivan. I have to admit, I started out not really liking him, though I definitely understood where he was coming from when he attempted to kill the Count, but by the end of the book he had really grown on me. I did think near the end, with the reveal of his origins he accepted it way too easily. I was not a fan of the Count, I found him to be extremely selfish and Mary deserved so much better than him. I also strongly disliked Blackbeard for the same reasons. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I'm glad I picked this up overall and I look forward to reading more works by this author.
